I established Edgecliff Physiotherapy Sports and Spinal Centre (now Edgecliff Physiotherapy) in 1985 and it has been the engine room in which the ‘Key Approach” model has evolved – with our sleeves rolled up and being on the shop floor so to speak. Our hands on work in the clinic and the opportunity to watch people move in the classes has contributed towards much of our understanding as described in the Key Approach model.
The practice now is under the direction of Andrea Clift. While I continue to further develop The Key Approach and Key Moves Exercise Classes. All physiotherapist working in the clinic are trained extensively in The Key Approach and have also aided in its development.
Our experience has been that almost without exception, all new staff find that upon incorporating the tenets of the model into their clinical practice, that their treatment outcomes and work satisfaction are greatly improved.
The practice enjoys a reputation as a centre of excellence in the management of pain and movement disorders of the spine and the musculoskeletal system in general.
All patients receiving treatment in the clinic undergo a comprehensive assessment which indicates a patient specific treatment programme consisting of both manual therapy and matched exercise therapy.
Achieving quality control in exercise therapy can be tricky as in general motor control problems underlie most of our patient’s problems. To address this problem each week we conduct 38 therapeutic exercise and movement classes. (See The Key Moves® Programme Therapeutic Exercise and Movement Therapy and our associated exercise programme at the clinic.)
The practice will continue to be the research and development arm of The Key Approach as the model evolves.
